Grameenphone and Robi Axiata have received commercial 5G spectrum licences from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission and have committed to full commercial launches in Dhaka and Chattogram by December.
What 5G Means for Bangladesh
5G will enable download speeds 10-100x faster than current 4G, with latency below 10 milliseconds. Key beneficiaries include smart manufacturing, remote healthcare, autonomous vehicle pilots and AR/VR entertainment platforms.
Investment Commitments
Grameenphone plans a BDT 8,000 crore ($730 million) 5G infrastructure investment over three years while Robi will invest BDT 5,500 crore. Combined, the rollout will deploy 12,000 new base stations.
