BUET Researcher Wins $1M Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics
Dr Fatema Tuz Zahura of BUET has won the Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics for her work on non-commutative geometry, making her the first Bangladeshi to receive the $1 million science award.
Dr Fatema Tuz Zahura of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology has been awarded the Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics — often called the "Oscars of Science" — for her revolutionary work in non-commutative geometry. She becomes the first Bangladeshi scientist to win the $1 million prize.
The Research
Dr Zahura's work resolves a 40-year-old conjecture in non-commutative geometry that links quantum mechanics and space-time topology. Her paper, published in the Annals of Mathematics, has been cited over 800 times since its release six months ago.
Inspiration and Journey
"I grew up in Rajshahi where there were no female role models in science," she said. "I hope this shows every girl in Bangladesh that mathematics is for them." She completed her PhD at MIT on a government scholarship before returning to BUET.

Excellent reporting! This is exactly the kind of in-depth analysis we need.
সত্যিই অসাধারণ। ধন্যবাদ বাংলা ক্রনিকল টিমকে।
