Free Tertiary Education: 200,000 Students to Receive Full University Scholarships

The government has launched its most ambitious education equity initiative — providing full scholarships to 200,000 meritorious students from low-income households at all 46 public universities, covering tuition, accommodation and a monthly stipend.

Eligibility Criteria

Students from families earning below BDT 20,000 per month who score in the top 30th percentile of their university admission test are automatically eligible. Special quotas reserve 25% of scholarships for students from chars, haors and hill districts.

Funding Mechanism

The BDT 3,200 crore annual budget is funded through a new Education Endowment Fund seeded by the government and matched by corporate CSR contributions. The World Bank and ADB have provided technical support.
